Cereal

On the boys four month birthday we decided to give cereal a try. I had high expectations because both Cy and Presley love to put everything in their mouth and took to formula of all kinds without hesitation. I was wrong. So wrong.
Presley checking out the new food
We learned after Presley ate that a naked baby is a much better way to go.
Cy wanted to hold the spoon...just didn't want anything to do with what was on the spoon.
After that initial feeding we became sidetracked by doctor's appointments, home catastrophes and power outages (it's been quite a month at our house), so I gave up on cereal for awhile. I just didn't have the energy to do it when we got home from work/school. This past week we pulled the cereal out again though. Presley still did not eat it. He didn't cry though. Just refused to open his mouth. I call this progress. I just kept rubbing it all over his mouth hoping he would get used to the texture and the taste. One of these days he will eventually open his mouth.
Cy ate after Presley and he initially responded the same way. Closed mouth, some head aversion, but once I got the spoon in his mouth he LOVED it! I could not get the next bite to him fast enough. He was grabbing my hand and shoving the spoon into his mouth. Cy did eat all of the cereal but I really think his favorite part of the experience was chewing on the spoon. I have made sure Presley can see Cy while he is eating in hopes that Presley will want to do the same thing Cy is doing or will learn from watching him.

Cy loves it.

5 month pictures

Checkin' out their winter boots (C on the left)
I love this picture although it shows one of my weaker parenting moments. Sometimes you'll just do anything to stop the crying.
It's our 5 month birthday...
no better way to celebrate than to be naked! (P on the left)
Cy is very concerned about Presley here

My favorite thing.

Presley at 5 Months

Here are the stats:  16 pounds 4 ounces
 26 3/8" long - 90th percentile (4 month stat)
What a change between months three and five!  Presely has become so much more aware of how his body works and how to move his hands, legs, etc  to serve a specific purpose.  This boy LOVES to stand up.  When he is laying on his back we will try to pull him to a sitting position and he just pops all the way up to his feet.  He has no interest in sitting when he can be standing!
Drool is a new and constant thing at our house.  I don't feel any teeth coming in yet, but I think we will see some soon.  Presley chews on everything, but his fist is definitely his favorite chew toy.  He tries so hard to shove the entire fist in his mouth!  He loves his hands and will look at them and then clasp them together and hold his hands and stare at them some more.  It's a good thing Presley has Cy around because he loves to hold hands, so he has a constant buddy to hold onto with his brother.
We really are so lucky to have such happy babies.  Presley loves to talk and laugh with anyone who pays attention to him.  The easiest way to get a smile out of this boy is to kiss him.  I don't know if it is the sound we make when we kiss him (exaggerated kissing noises) or if it tickles him, but he will laugh and laugh and laugh from getting just a few kisses.  So we do lots of kissing at our house these days because there is nothing better than hearing Presley and his brother laugh!
He feels so solid in my arms and his legs in particular are getting very strong.  Presley is still not really interested in rolling all the way over.  He will roll from side to side but very rarely rolls all the way to his stomach.  If he had his choice it would still always be to stand up.  He just loves being on his feet.  Sometimes I wonder if he will skip crawling and go straight to walking.  He does like to sit up and the boy has some very impressive posture.  No slouching over for him.  He is pretty close to sitting on his own with no help from us, but for now he will do it for about 30 seconds and then gets tired and topples over.  Maybe by Halloween they will both be sitting up on their own so we can get some cute pictures without having to hold them up!

Cy at 5 months

Here are the stats:  15 pounds 15 ounces
               26 1/8" - 75th percentile (that was his measurement at 4 mos)
Oh Cy...what a fun baby he is to watch.  This guy is definitely a mover and a shaker.  His arms and legs are in CONSTANT motion and he wants to reach out and touch everything that he sees.  He loves to roll around on the floor and will go from back to stomach to back over and over again if you leave him on the ground long enough.  I can see the recognition in his eyes that rolling can move him towards certain objects so that they are within his reach.
Cy loves to talk.  They tend to alternate who does the talking, but there are times when they will both just babble away at the same time.  They do the same thing when they cry.  One will cry for awhile and then he will calm down and then the other one starts up.  It's like they have this plan to work in shifts so that when one gets tired the other can step in and take over talking or crying duty.  It's great when they are talking, but the whole crying in shifts thing is really not cool. :)
I think that Cy is just a little bit flirtatious in the way he interacts with people.  There is something about his grin that is bashful and mischievous all at once.  He loves kisses and it is so wonderful to see his face light up when you bend towards him to give some love.
Cy is definitely a hands on kind of guy.  He grabs on to everything that he can and one of the easiest things for him to grab and hold onto is his brother's hair.  He LOVES Presley and they both just gravitate towards each other when you put them on the floor.  It is easy to see that they are going to be such good friends!

Crawling is definitely on this guy's agenda sooner rather than later.  He flips himself onto his stomach now and will kick his legs to inch himself closer to objects he wants to reach.  It is a sloooow process and he doesn't move far, but he can definitely get across his playmat if you give him some time.  He is just so determined and he works really hard to get what he wants.  It makes me so proud to see him work like that.
Sitting up on his own has become a very close reality.  His balance gets better every day and so does his strength.  If we get him balanced and then let go he can sit on his own for maybe 30 seconds at a time and has even started to re-balance himself when he starts to tip over.  Before long he will not need any help at all!

First Haircut

Presley & Cy had their first {official} haircut 2 1/2 weeks ago!  I cannot believe that we had to take little 4 month babies into have someone professionally cut their hair.  The little trim jobs that I was doing at home just were not cutting (haha)it anymore.  We went to see Jenny, who cuts Paul's hair and my own, and the boys loved her.  They were fascinated by her black fingernails and listening to her speak in Spanish.

Cy's before shot
He was so happy to have Jenny's attention

The after shot
Presley's turn (before shot)
Presley took a little while to warm up to Jenny
What do you think of this hair style?
The after shot of Presley is kind of goofy.  His haircut does look very nice but it is combed funny in this picture or something.

Go Frogs!

Presley and Cy got to meet their new friend Eli last weekend and the boys watched a little TCU football together.  Eli lives in Ft. Worth so he knows were to find all the cool TCU gear and he helped us find the TCU jersey that Cy is wearing.  Maybe we are looking at the 2029 Horned Frog starting QB, wide receiver and running back???
