Auntie Mae comes to visit

Paul's sister, Meredith came to visit us last week and the boys just loved her. She was a huge help to me around the house and with Cy and Presley and she also took lots of great pictures that I am stealing to use for this post and the next!

Cy, Meredith and Presley

with Presley

We made our biggest trip out of the house when we drove to San Marcos for the afternoon and did a little shopping at the outlet mall. Like all of our excursions I learn something new every time to make life easier for the next trip out. This particular trip encouraged me to give the boys their first try at eating from a bottle. Sometimes they do a really good job and other times it is a little bit challenging to get them to eat without spitting up half their food.

Two weeks

Two week check up today and everything looks good. Here are the stats:

Presley
7 pounds 1 ounce
21+ inches

Cy
6 pounds 13 ounces
20+ inches

Newborn pics

Cy and Presley had their first little photo shoot on Saturday and we got a few pics from the photographer early while she works on editing the rest. It was quite an experience trying to keep both boys happy at the same time. Pee was shooting everywhere when the diapers came off, but hey, that's just what little boys do!

We're so strong!

Paul and I put both boys down for some tummy time on Monday night and ended up getting quite a surprise!  We had only tried tummy time one or two times and both times Presley instantly fell asleep, but Cy worked really hard on lifting his head and neck and turning them from side to side.  He was also really good at working his legs to get some leverage.
On Monday night Cy continued to impress with is neck strength and when we put Presley down on his stomach he actually stayed awake.  A few minutes later Presley pushed himself up enough on his arms that he rolled over from his stomach to back -- what a stud!  In case you think it was a fluke we turned him back to his stomach and he promptly completed the move again.  We got the end of it on video.
So basically, we think we have the two strongest boys ever in addition to them being the most handsome and intelligent :).  Not that we are biased or anything.

Week 1

We are home and getting settled in with the help of Grammy and GranPop.  Life is good with the little men and we have been busy these last few days with Grammy and GranPop (my mom and dad), Grandpa (Paul's dad) and lots of visitors.  We even had our first play date!

Headed Home!

Our first night at home..we get to share a crib for a little while so we can stay nice and close to each other.

Aunt MP made us these cute onesies, but Presley only lasted in his for about 20 minutes before he peed right through it.  Oh well.

The first meeting with Grandpa!

Our first outing was to the doctor.  The boys have already gained back much of the weight they lost initially and are doing well.

My good friends Liz and Keilah made the drive down from RR on Monday to visit and meet the boys and they brought their precious children with them.  Keilah's son Collier was born in August and Liz's daughter Emery was born in October.  They were both so cute and active and I enjoyed spending time with all of them.  This was the best shot I could get with two squirmy newborns and 2 active infants.

It has been a very busy three days at home and I am looking forward to some downtime.  Paul starts back to school on Tuesday, so we will be re-adjusting to his schedule this next week.  One more post to come soon!

Delivery

I have one word for you:
EPIDURAL!!!

I had the best delivery experience (not that I have any other experience) and I give credit in large part to the wonderful anesthesiologist who gave me the good stuff Wednesday morning.  But to go back to the beginning...

Looking large and in charge, Paul and I headed to the hospital at 5:30am Wednesday, April 21 to be induced.
You gotta respect the belly...that is some serious heft
We got checked into the hospital and found out that I was dilated to a 4 and was already having contractions.  Apparently the feelings that I had been attributing to Cy moving around up near my ribs were actually contractions.  Who knew???  I was feeling no pain at this point and decided to wait on the epidural for a little while.  Closer to 9am I was waiting for my doctor to come and break the bag of water Presley was in and I was starting to feel a little discomfort in my lower back.  Knowing that the contractions would get much stronger after my water broke I decided to go for the epidural...I figure delivering twins naturally is as much of a hero as I want to be and that I have no shame in accepting any drug that was going to minimize that pain.
The epidural kicked in fast and I was feeling good.

So I proceed to sleep for the next several hours and when my doctor came back around 3pm he announced it was show time.  Since I was delivering twins I had to be moved to the operating room for delivery just in case a C-Section became necessary for Cy after Presley had been delivered.
My boys must love me a whole lot because Presley was born within 15 minutes and Cy followed him out one push and 4 minutes later.  They are my HEROS!  See post below for some of their first pictures.  All in all it was a great experience and Paul and I are so happy with our new family of 4!

The DAY

If nothing happens in the next week then Paul and I will be checking into the hospital on Wednesday April 21 at 6am to be induced.  Looks like the two little dudes need some encouragement to get moving!

Tuesday, April 6

36 weeks

Here are the stats from the doctor's appointment today:

Presley is 6 pounds 10 ounces
Cy is 6 pounds 4 ounces

The sonographer could see some hair on Cy's head but didn't mention anything about Presley's hair.  Paul and I were both born with full heads of hair so we are curious to see if the boys have the same.

I was slightly more dilated and effaced but nothing significant, so we will keep waiting...my patience is wearing thin!!!  I am off bed rest so I am hoping an increase in my activitiy  will encourage the boys to come soon.  The next update will hopefully be after they arrive!

Nursery Pictures

We put most of the finishing touches on the nursery this weekend.  My parents have been coming into town on the weekends to help out around the house so that I can rest and Paul can keep on studying.  My mom has been cleaning, doing laundry and helping me organize the nursery while my dad put the finishing touches on the changing table he built for us.  It is an awesome changing table...I basically showed my dad a picture of what we wanted in the room and he made an exact replica...so cool.

It has been really nice to have so much help especially since it takes a lot off of Paul's plate so he can study, study, study before these boys get here.  Anyway...the nursery is 98% done...I would still like to find a couple of things for the walls but I can't seem to find anything I like.  Other than that all we need are Presley & Cy to make this room complete!

the boys initials are a gift from a shower some of my mom's friends hosted and the framed picture is of one of our first sonograms of the boys that my friends here in San Antonio signed and had framed.

My friend, Janice made the bedding for this crib after I had a fiasco ordering the crib bedding that matched the other crib.  She is also responsible for the curtains :).  Thanks Janice!

Who gets which crib??? Decisions, decisions...

Changing table courtesy of Grand Pop!  It is really cool and has tons of storage.  Thank you Dad!!!

On another note - I will be 36 weeks this week and will be taken off bed rest on Tuesday. Hopefully Cy and Presley will come soon after!
